The range of methylotrophic yeasts includes Candida boidinii, Pichia methanolica, Pichia pastoris and Hansenula polymorpha. H. polymorpha is taxonomically a species of the Saccharomycetaceae family. The leading taxonomy monographs follow a recent proposal to merge the genera Pichia and Hansenula and to re-name H. polymorpha as Pichia angusta.
