Why Use Desiccants in Food Storage?

Desiccant packets will suck moisture out of the atmosphere, helping keep crisp food crisp. If you work in a professional kitchen or you're making special treats for a home party, use desiccant packets.

Desiccants dry out the air by removing naturally occurring water vapor. Desiccants can extend the shelf life of products such as chips, crackers or butter cookies that may otherwise go stale.

The three main types of desiccants are silica gel, molecular sieve and clay. Clay desiccants are made from clay, silica gel desiccants are made of silicon dioxide and molecular sieve desiccants are made from a metal called alumosilicate zeolite.
